Just keep it between the front two seats (by the hand brakes). So there is plenty of flexibility to keep it in my camry. This way, I wouldn't have to pull out the car chargers from the sockets before I parked my car. Plugged a GPS unit and radar detector. Having a long wire and total of 4 ports + 1 extra fuse is great. You really don't have to mount it anywhere.
I am not sure if leaving the car chargers in the ports when the car is shut down will consume the power from my car battery. I used this recently on a 1 day trip. The wire is long enough. I wish it had a ON/OFF switch on it.
I hardwire this device into my car. Looks great with the two USB plugs and also the two 12volt plugs.
Both my cars have the annoying arrangement where the dashboard cigarette lighter/power outlet location interferes with a cup holder; so I wish the cigarette lighter plug was shorter and the wire came out the side instead of the back. A word of warning though, not all products that use USB charging will charge without their specialized charger - my LG cell phone will only charge using their specialized line voltage and car chargers.I have only two minor complaints. My other complaint isn't really a complaint, it's more of a nice to have - I'd like FOUR USB outlets instead of two. I purchased one of these a little over a year ago and I'm back now to buy a second one for another car. I especially like having USB power outlets so that I can just purchase USB cables for some of my electronics that get used in both cars rather than having to buy another overpriced specialized cigarette lighter adapter. I could solve this by hardwiring it and I keep thinking I'm going to do that but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I tried several different products to find one that would charge my iphone video cable, and this was the onl one that worked. Product appears very well built. Very convenient and reasonably priced.
I'm very happy with my purchase and will definitely buy another one if I ever need to. Highly recommended, this. (The radar detector plug does not shake loose). I screwed mine in, so I can't vouch for the velcro, but, again, the hardware is top-notch. Also, the plug for my GPS sometimes shakes loose, but this is only because my '86 Corolla shakes at higher speeds and probably has more to do with the plug, rather than the outlet. This may only work for the older iPods.I'm not sure.
But with my setup, it works. The cord is a good length and enables you to stealth it if you don't want to go through the trouble of hard wiring it. In all honesty, the only real negative I found was semi-poor English translation in the manual that I was skimming out of sheer curiosity. To wrap up, I saw that someone had doubts about being able to charge and use an iPod simultaneously. All ports work flawlessly and I am able to charge my iPod, cell phone and Mio Digiwalker GPS while powering my ValentineOne radar/laser detector. Solid construction and heavy-duty metal mounts.
The fuse in the back is easily reachable if it needs to be replaced. I have an older iPod Video (purchased in 2005) and I can charge it with my USB charger while listening to it through my Sony head unit using an auxiliary cable.
